Our approach
How we plan and hang wallpaper in New York homes
Calm, careful and in order: talk, look, prepare, hang. Here’s what working with Hudson Wallpaper Installer looks like, and what you can expect at each step.

Five steps from idea to finished wall
A conversation first
Call, email or send the form. Tell us about the room, the look you’re after or the paper you already have. If you don’t know square footage or product details yet, that’s fine — we’ll tell you what helps and what doesn’t matter yet.
Looking at the wall
Photos can help, but they’re optional. For many projects it makes sense to see the wall in person; you’re welcome to ask whether an on-site look and measurements can be arranged for your project and when.
A clear estimate
We explain what the job involves — prep, material handling, how the pattern will be laid out — and what is and isn’t included, so you can decide without pressure.
Prep day (or prep hour)
Floors and furniture are protected. Old paper comes down, repairs are made and the wall is primed. On a sound wall this might be quick; on an older plaster wall it can be the biggest part of the job.
Hanging & finishing
We set a plumb line, plan the pattern from the most visible point, match every seam, trim at ceilings, trim and fixtures, and wipe down as we go. Before we leave, we walk the room with you.
Who you’re talking to
A direct line to the business doing the work
Hudson Wallpaper Installer provides and arranges wallpaper installation under its own name, and our installers do the work. When you call, you’re speaking with the business that will plan, schedule and carry out your installation — not a directory or a referral line.
What we care about on every wall
- The surface. Paper only looks as good as what’s under it.
- The layout. Where the pattern lands matters as much as how straight it hangs.
- The seams. Butted tight, rolled gently, never overworked.
- The edges. Sharp at ceilings, baseboards, door and window trim.
- Your home. Floors covered, furniture protected, debris cleared.
Before & after installation day
A few practical things that make the day go smoothly
Clearing the wall. Take down art, shelves and curtains on the walls being papered, and move small furniture away if you can. If something heavy has to stay, tell us when we schedule — we’ll plan around it.
Having the paper on site. If you’re supplying the wallpaper, keep the rolls unopened and together, and check that the batch or lot numbers match. Mixed batches can differ slightly in color.
Heat and humidity. Wallpaper adhesive likes a steady room. Very dry radiator heat or a steamy bathroom can affect drying; we may suggest keeping a room closed or ventilated for a day.
After we leave. Give the paper time to dry fully before hanging art or pushing furniture back against it. Small bubbles in some papers flatten as they dry; if anything looks off after a few days, call us.
Building logistics. If your building needs advance notice, specific work hours or contractor paperwork, mention it early so scheduling accounts for it.
Kids, pets, plants. A clear path between the door and the work area keeps everyone safe and the job moving.
