Earthy modern + farmhouse

The farmhouse feeling, translated for New York rooms

You can’t add barn beams to a prewar one-bedroom, but you can bring in the things that make a farmhouse feel good: natural texture, colors pulled from wood, clay and moss, and patterns that look like they’ve always been there. Wallpaper does that faster than almost anything else — and it’s one wall, one room or one hallway at a time.

The modern part is restraint. One honest material, one pattern per room, matte black hardware and plenty of breathing space. Our job is to make that paper look calm on the wall: straight drops, invisible seams where the material allows, and edges that meet trim and ceilings cleanly.

Material notes

Texture first: the papers behind the look

Earthy rooms are built on materials you can almost feel through the photo. Each behaves differently on the wall, which is exactly why installation matters.

Living room with a stacked-stone fireplace, a warm-toned textured wallcovering and a wood-plank ceiling
Woven texture beside stone and woodNatural-fiber and textured wallcoverings pick up the tones of stone and timber. Seams on true grasscloth stay visible — part of its charm — so panel order and color flow are planned before cutting.
Dining area with weathered wood-plank print wallpaper on every wall and white cross-back chairs
Wood-look printA barn-board look without the weight. Horizontal and vertical plank patterns need careful leveling to look real.
Bright living room with a white shiplap ceiling, a gallery wall on botanical wallpaper and a brick fireplace
Light botanicalsPale leafy prints keep a room airy and pair well with white trim, oak and black accents.
Dining room with blue-grey grasscloth above white wainscoting and an iron pendant light
Grasscloth above wainscotA classic farmhouse split: painted panels below, woven texture above.

How it goes

Four steps, no guesswork

  1. Call or send a request

Tell us about the room in your own words. A rough idea is plenty to start.

  2. Talk it through

We discuss the wall, the paper and timing — and you can ask about an on-site look and measurements.

  3. Prepare the surface

Old paper, cracks and glossy paint are dealt with first, so the new paper has something sound to hold.

  4. Hang & finish

Plumb first drop, matched pattern, trimmed edges, and a tidy room when we leave.

Quick answers

Questions people ask before they call

More answers on materials, ordering and timing are in our wallpaper guide FAQ.

Can I call before I know my wall measurements?

Yes. A first call doesn’t need measurements, product codes or photos — just tell us about the room and what you have in mind. We’ll explain what’s useful for an estimate and you can ask whether someone can come out to look at the walls and measure.

Will an earthy, farmhouse-style paper work in a small apartment?

Often very well. Soft plaids, tight grasscloth weaves and quiet botanicals add texture without shrinking a room, and a single accent wall behind a bed or sofa is an easy way to try the look. We can talk through scale and color before you order.

Do you install wallpaper I’ve already bought?

Yes. Customer-supplied wallpaper is common. Before installation day we’ll want to know the brand and type, how many rolls you have and whether they share a batch number, so there are no surprises when the first strip goes up.
